  1. I found your website when looking at articles about the Pacoima plane crash. I was at Terra Bella Street School at the time. All these years later, it’s still fresh in my memory.

Most importantly, were you anchored in Truk lagoon in February 1979? I think we met your sons at the Truk Continental Hotel. They were washing their laundry, quietly the characters.

    • Hello Mike,
      What a great surprise.
Yes, I do believe we could have met at Truk in February of 1969. We were on our way to Brunei to pick up a group of Amateur Radio Operators for a expedition to the Spratly Islands in the South China Sea.

Even more amazing that you were at the grammar school when the four engine airplane crashed on our sports ground.

Were you aboard a vessel in Truk or what?

Hello from Palm Springs. We were on our honeymoon in January and February 1979. We flew the Continental Air Micronesia island hopper from Honolulu. Dirt runways at Ponape and Truk. It was a great adventure. We had a wonderful time talking with your boys. They said they were sailing from Australia around the world, we remember them fondly.

I was in the 4th grade at the time of the crash. I was in the 2nd row of classrooms from the chainlink fence separating the schools. I remember seeing the plane break in half as it fell. Thanks for the reply, we would love to hear more about your travels.

        Best Wishes,

        Mike and Ellen Martin

  2. Hi J&J
What info can you provide me for the section of cruising from Fremantle to Broome?
I am considering joining a mate on that section of his circumnavigation of Aust.
Would be from mid April to mid May travelling North

    • It’s a great time to travel north, predominantly southern winds making the passages fast. Little possibility of cyclones is another positive. It will be cool, so pack something warm, and if you dive, bring along a wetsuit jacket. J&J
